5 Unexpected Honeymoon Destinations

Some of the first things people think of when they imagine their honeymoon are private pristine beaches, total relaxation, and not having to plan or think about a thing except which cocktail to order. There are many great travel destinations to choose from when picking a honeymoon destination, but no more than ever people are asking to visit a place that they might not normally have the time to visit, and a place that completely removes them from reality. Your honeymoon should be as unique as you are, so check out these five exotic and unexpected honeymoon destinations.

India & the Maldives

A honeymoon in India and the Maldives provides the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, and romance. You can take part in a traditional Indian marriage ceremony at a local temple in Delhi where a Hindu priest will offer blessings for a happy marriage. Then head to Agra where you can take a dreamy horse-drawn carriage ride to see the Taj Mahal or float down the holy River Ganges in Varanasi. Next you can travel south into the Kerala backwaters where a deluxe houseboat can take you down the waterways that make the region famous. Last but not least, don’t forget the neighboring Maldives, which offer a luxurious paradisiacal scene complete with bungalows over the sparkling turquoise blue water, soft white sand, and a perpetual sunny sky.

China

You will fall even more love with your new spouse as you explore China’s many new luxury properties, cultural outings, spa treatments, and the most romantic experiences. Visit the must-see city highlights of Beijing such as the Great Wall or take a cooking class and learn how to make heart-shaped dumplings! Or consider traveling to Lijiang, where your garden villa at the Banyan Tree Lijiang includes a romantic private outdoor jacuzzi to better enjoy the majestic mountain views. Finish your trip with a few days in Shanghai – it’ll be a busy trip so make sure and get a spa treatment before your evening cocktails at one of the city’s hippest restaurants.

Bali/Java

In Java and Bali you’ll stay at luxurious resorts nestled in the lush forests overlooking the ocean. Whild there you can explore the islands’ local markets and temples, enjoy traditional dance performances, treat yourself to locally inspired spa treatments, and dine on the beach as the sun sets. For the adventurous couple there are plenty of options, including whitewater rafting trips on the Talaga Waja River and tours of the beautiful ruins of Taman Sari.

At night you’ll stay at the country’s loveliest accommodations and snuggle in front of the fireplace, preparing for true adventure the next day.
